A franc de pied vine is a final specimen of “vitis vinifera,” a vine cultivated on its original roots, not grafted onto an American rootstock (as has been the norm since the phylloxera crisis in the 19th century).

These rare vines, especially vulnerable, give rise to distinctive and authentic wines, because they pass on the characteristics of the grape variety and the terroir directly.

“Les Francs de Pied,” a symbol of bold and courageous winemaking, are being celebrated in this forward-looking competition!
